OutReaching Those Most in Need

Dear Supporters of the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic,

Last month, our team traveled to the community of Las Cañas de García for our first-ever outreach day there. The day was a powerful reminder of why our work together matters so much.

Like many of the communities we serve across southwestern Nicaragua, Las Cañas is a place of great need. Families live in very poor conditions, often without potable water, adequate nutrition, or reliable sanitation. And critically, the closest MINSA health center does not have a permanent doctor available for consultations. For most residents, getting to a clinic means transportation costs they simply cannot afford — so many go without care entirely.

Our team of three volunteers — two nurses and one physician — spent the day providing primary care assessments and essential medicines to adults and children. By the end of the day, we had delivered:

  • 194 medical consultations
  • 13 injectable treatments
  • 9 glucose tests
  • 1 pregnancy screening
  • 1 emergency care and referral (a pregnant woman with a threatened miscarriage)

As we often do, we partnered with Nicaragua’s Ministry of Health (MINSA) for this outreach day. MINSA administered 10 MR (rubella) vaccines as part of the national vaccination campaign — an important complement to the primary care our team provided.

It was a great outcome and a good start. Las Cañas is one of the communities with the greatest need, and we are committed to returning.

Each year, our outreach program impacts over 12 communities — traveling rough roads and crossing rivers to bring care to families who have no other options.

We have budgeted to expand this program, because the need is vast and the difference we make is real. But we need your help to fund it.
