Celebrating Our Healthcare Heroes

Dear NicaClinic Friends and Family,

It is my privilege to share with you two special video messages from remarkable women who embody the mission and spirit of our organization. In belated honor of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2025), I want to highlight the dedication and compassion of dedicated nurse Lidieth Marin and pharmacy assistant Jaqueline Balmaceda.

They are both making a positive difference in Southwestern Nicaragua every day.

A Thank You From Lidieth, Our Dedicated Nurse

Lidieth has worked in the clinic for 9 years, balancing her professional career with caring for 3 daughters at home She brings a welcoming and calming smile to our facility. She likes being one of the first greeters when a patient comes through the door, often in great distress.

She provides them with urgent care, taking vital signs, and explaining to them what to expect from their experience at the Clinic.

She believes one of the most important aspects of her job is that she is part of a team that provides free care to those who need it most in her community. She also loves that the Clinic is located in a beautiful setting, where every day there is a great variety of cases.

Lidieth’s responsibilities extend far beyond the clinic walls…

When our mobile medical team travels to remote communities, she is often the first to volunteer, carrying supplies through difficult terrain to reach families who otherwise might never receive medical attention.

During the pandemic, and after terrific flooding in the area, she worked tirelessly, sometimes working overtime to ensure our community had access to care when they needed it most. Her resilience is nothing short of remarkable, as she balances her own family’s needs with her commitment to public health.

Hear From Jaqueline, Our Expert Associate Pharmacist

Our medication dispensary is a busy center of our healthcare facility. Our associate pharmacist ensures this vital part of our facility functions perfectly. With her attention to detail, she manages our inventory of life-saving medications despite significant resource constraints.

She likes to work at the Clinic because it is a primary care center, with particular focus on attending the children of the community. Jaqueline lives in the main regional city of Rivas, and has two daughters.  She loves the work environment at the Clinic – the reliability and professionalism of the team.

Jaqueline’s expertise goes beyond dispensing medications. She works with our medics to educate patients about proper dosages, potential side effects, and the importance of completing treatment courses. For many in our community who have limited literacy, these counseling sessions are essential to ensuring positive health outcomes.

During our outreach clinic days, she helps inventory and distribute free medication kits tailored to the specific needs of each community we visit. These outreach brigades bring these poor families living in remote shacks such relief.

When we travel to remote areas, we often meet patients who have been suffering for months because they couldn’t access basic medications.

The Impact of Your Support

The dedication of these women is multiplied by your generosity. Thanks to your continued support, our clinic has been able to:

  • Maintain 24/7 operations despite economic challenges
  • Expand our outreach program to reach five additional remote communities this year
  • Provide over 18__,000 consultations to families who would otherwise go without care
  • Stock essential medications for treating common but potentially fatal conditions
  • Train local health promoters to extend our reach even further

Looking Forward

As we celebrate these healthcare heroes, we also look to the future. The needs in our region remain significant, but with dedicated professionals like our nurse and pharmacist – and with friends like you – we continue to make progress toward our vision of healthcare access for all.Your donations directly support the salaries of our healthcare team, purchase medications and supplies, and fuel our vehicles for outreach clinics. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us maintain our 24/7 services and reach more families in need.

Join Us in Celebration

Today, I invite you to join me in celebrating these incredible women. Their commitment to serving others, often at great personal sacrifice, represents the very best of humanity – and the spirit of our clinic’s namesake, Roberto Clemente, who dedicated his life to humanitarian service.

Please take a moment to watch their video message and consider making a gift in honor of their work. Together, we can ensure that quality healthcare remains accessible to all who need it in Southwestern Nicaragua.

With deepest gratitude,
Julia Guth
