Baltimore, October 2012: Thanks to generous donations from our supporters, The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic was able to purchase a GE Logiq Book XP portable ultrasound equipment. It has proven a valuable tool in proving care to numerous patients and it is currently the only ultrasound machine in this remote region. Even the closest hospital in Rivas does not have an ultrasound. The ultrasound machine is key to ensuring healthy pregnancies as well as detecting internal injuries and diagnosing diseases. It also plays an important role in diagnosing cardio vascular problems and kidney disease.
Dr. Flores, one of our senior medical staff, has been seeing eight to ten patients per day, twice a week exclusively for ultrasounds. This new service is much needed by the community, and has been a great success.
The ultrasound is an addition to the range of new health resources we are bringing to our community, such as Pediatric, Dental Services and Laboratory services, which are provided once a week.
Our Clinic, located at the south west of the country – Limon1 Rivas, Nicaragua – also treats emergency and life threatening cases where our team can stabilize a patient while they are transported to the main hospital in Rivas Nicaragua.
