Celebrate Earth Day: Sponsor a Community Garden

New Sponsor-a-Garden Program Lets You Help a Community Get Healthier

Dear Friend of the Clinic,

Just in time for Earth Day, we are presenting an exciting new way to help impoverished families learn, grow and get healthier.

With great success for a number of years now – our Healthy Eating Initiative is battling the high incidence of diabetes, high blood pressure, tooth decay, weight gain and anemia in the rural southwest communities of Nicaragua.

We’re teaching members of the community how to take advantage of their unused lands to improve their quality of life nutritionally, as well as economically. We provide classes in basic gardening, soil enhancement, nutrition and natural pest control.

Most of these families live in extreme poverty and have harsh lives. By offering Healthy Eating Workshops at neighboring schools, kids and their parents learn values such as respect, discipline and responsibility.

Since we started the program:

·         We’ve created 32 organic gardens – including three at other local NGOs and three at local public schools.

·         More than 150 people have directly benefited from the creation of the organic gardens.

·         More than 1,000 individuals have purchased vegetables from the gardens and the Clinic.

Since March 2018, we’ve trained new families on the biointensive organic system that requires no expensive pesticides. With planting season quickly approaching in May, this is the perfect time to prepare the land, distribute the seeds and create new gardens.

But to expand this program – we need your help…

Our 2018 goal is to create 40 new organic family gardens.

With only $50 per month, you can help us create and sustain a new organic garden for a family in the rural, coastal and lovely Tola province of Nicaragua.

Would you please sponsor an organic garden for a family in need?

With only a $50 monthly donation, you can give one family the opportunity to:

·         Start its own organic garden

·         Learn and put into practice the biointensive method

·         Promote the use of vacant or abandoned land

·         Learn the importance of creating good eating habits and the necessary nutritional balance to improve overall health

·         Highlight the importance of producing its own healthy foods

·         Unify the members of the communities and families by participating and working together for a common cause

·         Create a native network of volunteers who exchange experiences and resources

·         Promote values of accountability and discipline.

YES!
To celebrate Earth Day, I want to sponsor an organic garden and help a Nicaraguan family today.
