We want to take a moment to thank you for your unwavering support of the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic. Your donations have made an invaluable impact on the people in Southwestern Nicaragua.
But have you ever thought about just how many lives have changed because of your contributions?
Through all programs including:
We impacted a total of 47,800 people (directly and indirectly) in 57 Pacific coast communities in Nicaragua, in 2023 alone! That includes 23,030 medical services. Our team on the ground works 24/7 to provide preventative, primary, and emergency care to make sure we aid the greatest number of people possible. We asked the Clinic team the best part about their job. Here is what they said…
“Getting involved with the communities and contributing to building a better world through my work and the wellness program we are developing.” – Enmanuel, Programs Director
“Knowing I support wonderful programs that benefit the most vulnerable people within our community. It is also great knowing that we make a difference every day, it makes me proud!” – Gustavo, General Manager
“Seeing people smile – to know that we contribute a little to improve thousands of lives means the world to me.” – Auxiliadora, Administrative Director
But we could not do it without your support. Thank YOU! We vow to keep working tirelessly to ensure these efforts continue to grow throughout 2024. With your support, the Clinic is bound to improve by leaps and bounds.
The impact you help make in this community does not go unnoticed. To continue your support in 2024, please DONATE HERE.

Happy Friday!
This week, we wanted to take a break from our usual letter to share some photos of our hardworking staff in the field.

Dr. Norland Josue Villareal has been part of our staff since 2021. This photo was taken in the Cuascoto community during a community outreach activity!

Raquel Hernandez works with the Ministry of Public Health. She helps us coordinate activities of Community Outreach by the Asentamiento community. In this photo, she teaches children proper hand washing techniques!

Julio Arias Pasos, an EMT for the Clinic who has been working at the Clinic since 2015, preps an emergency stretcher to transfer a patient to Rivas’s hospital.

Our Agricultural Engineer Yader Perez Baltodano and our General Manager Gustavo Ibarra are helping a patient in El Lajal community.

Gipzy Lopez, a local volunteer, practicing her skills with us in Los Cocos Community Garden. Gipzy is a student from the Gigante community, studying Agricultural Engineering!

Karla Gazo Villagra has been a nurse for the Clinic since 2020. In this picture, she is assisting a patient in the Cuascoto community during a Community Outreach activity.

Great news!
Last week, the Clinic hosted the children of the Padrino Program for our annual celebration.
All the children in this program range from pre-school to secondary school.

During this visit the children were presented with supplies, including backpacks, erasers, notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, and new school uniforms (shirts, pants, athletic attire, sweatshirts, and shoes). Our clinic team was able to provide 47 of these packages on a very small budget!
Along with school supplies, each child received their annual health check-up which includes a physical exam, deworming medication, and vitamins.
All of this is done with the help of our sponsors, like you, who give a small amount monthly to better prepare each child to succeed.

We also find that acknowledgement and encouragement of success goes a long way, especially for kids this young. Our team took the time to celebrate those in our program who excelled in their academics, and even a couple of graduates from the 6th and 11th grade!
Each time we meet with these students we provide a motivational discussion on the importance of learning and growing, which highly influences their performance. To finish this heart-warming meeting, we enjoyed a snack with the families and played with a pinata. And the families were not shy in sharing how grateful they are to be a part of our Padrino Program and the influence it has on their children.
Would you like to become a sponsor?

Here is what your generous donation could provide for a child in Limon 1, Tola, Nicaragua…

This kind of support is crucial to the success of each child’s education and beyond.
Help us help the future of Nicaragua.

Dear Friend of the Clinic,
The first weekend in January filled us with joy and pride in our Clinic team and those who support us.
We were honored to bring back our Wellness Weekend after a long break due to COVID-19. With friends joining us from the local community and all over the United States, we relaxed, reset and connected with each other.
On Thursday, the Clinic team welcomed our guests with open arms during our Welcome Reception held at Rancho Santana.

On Friday, we participated in a wellness panel – hosted by medical professionals from the Clinic and the local community. It was followed by a wonderful seaside lunch at La Taqueria. Discussion Panel: Let’s Reset! Moderated by Dra. Hazel Ruiz.
Saturday, we were overjoyed to join the Clinic team at the Annual Community Health Fair, playing soccer with the kids, speaking with the locals and meeting those involved in the Padrino Program!

Sunday, our group participated in a variety of wellness activities offered at Rancho Santana, including pickleball, a beach hike to Magnific Rock and yoga. Then we had a wonderful evening at La Boquita for dinner.

Monday was a busy day. We began the morning with yoga at Los Cocos Community Gardens. And then we had a wonderful presentation from founder of the gardens and donor Jack Weston on the importance of nutrition and farming in the local community.
After that, our team took a detour to host local and international medical professionals at the Roberto Clemente Medical Symposium: Approach to the Patient in the Acute Care Setting.

Finally, to finish our retreat, celebrity chef Alex Belew catered a wonderful evening gala reception and farewell dinner. We spent much time reminiscing on the wonderful activities of the retreat and ended the night full of gratitude!

It was a trip to remember, and we cannot wait for the next Wellness Weekend in early February of 2025. Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Caitlin KratzAdministrative Coordinator[email protected]
